If You Just Have a Rain Barrel — Stop Here, You’re Fine

For a simple backyard rainwater tank or a garage pressure tank, genuinely don’t overthink this. After the flood, our insurance adjuster told us in plain language that a monitored leak-and-level system would have meaningfully reduced our premium.   • Budget allows and the tank is in a harsh environment: Go radar. Spend the money once and never think about it again.
  • Watching every dollar: He $60 ultrasonic unit plus a phone alert covers 90% of what actually matters in real life.

The protection that counts is the kind that works when you’re standing in an airport 500 miles away and the tank is back home filling up. I learned that the expensive way — with ruined drywall and an insurance adjuster asking why I had no monitoring.
